Aiden McGeady’s potential move to Celtic on loan in January looks to be off as Everton have told the Scottish side they will not subsidise the Irish international’s wages.
According to Daily Record, Everton will be happy to let the trio of McGeady, Steven Naismith and Darren Gibson leave in January, but they are not prepared to subsidise any wages.
Naismith has the chance to join Norwich City and McGeady, who is keen to play regular first-team football in order to cement a place in the Ireland squad for the summer’s European Championships, will only be able to leave if his agent can find a club willing to pay his £50,000-a-week wages in full.

McGeady is apparently interested in a move to his former club, but it seems unlikely that they’d pay such a high wage figure to bring him back to Celtic Park, so for the moment he is in limbo.
The 27-year-old winger has fallen out of favour in Martin O’Neill’s Ireland side and hasn’t played for Everton since a 45 minute appearance in the League Cup against Barnsley back in August.
If he wishes to move from the doldrums at Goodison Park, he will have to take a significant pay cut and leave on a permanent deal.
