Rangers would be ideal destination for unwanted Mo Besic [Opinion]

Runaway Scottish league leaders Rangers could be an ideal destination for Everton outcast Mo Besic.

The Liverpool Echo recently reported that the 28-year-old is one of several unwanted players in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad who Everton wish to offload in permanent agreements, with a view to freeing up funds for allocation elsewhere.

Rangers were linked with a move for Besic in the summer, and Steven Gerrard’s side would be an ideal destination for the Bosnian.

The Ibrox manager previously rubbished rumours that Besic had undergone a medical ahead of a move to the Ibrox, but stopped short of denying interest in the 45-cap international.

Moreover, Besic would be the ideal dogged and defensive workhorse who could supplement Gerrard’s midfield superbly. He cuts a similar mould to Finnish international Glen Kamara, whilst there is something of a minor injury crisis among Rangers’ midfield options.

Partnering further with the likes of Joe Aribo, Besic could offer strong physical box-to-box characteristics for the Premiership leaders.

READ EVERTON VERDICT

Gerrard’s typical 4-2-3-1 setup relies on the ruggedness of two anchoring midfielders to shore up his back line and provide deep-lying support for the two number 10s ahead of them, which fits the bill in terms of Besic’s attributes.

With the Bosnian out of contract in the summer, Everton would do well to try and command a fee for the 28-year-old, although a pre-contract agreement is also a possible option.

However, a failure to offload Besic in this window offers little benefit to the Toffees, who would be left with a valueless asset who offers nothing in the way of resale possibilities nor sporting utility to Carlo Ancelotti.
