Carlo Ancelotti Insists Everton Outcasts Free to Depart if Desired

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has dropped a transfer revelation by publicly opening the door for peripheral figures to leave the club in January if they no longer wish to remain at the club.

Insisting he will not stand in anyone’s way, Ancelotti also addressed rumours about Cenk Tosun when asked about reports linking Tosun with a return to Turkish football.

The 29-year-old striker joined from Besiktas for £27 million but has struggled for game time since seeing his position usurped by in-form striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

There have also been further links between Tosun and West Brom, where there is reportedly interest from both parties to see Tosun reunite with Sam Allardyce.

Tosun was a key signing under Allardyce when he was signed in 2018 but has since struggled for regular game time under Allardyce’s successors.

Speaking about his desire to not have unsettled talents in his squad, Ancelotti was upfront and open about his policy for players wishing to leave:

“We didn’t have any request from people who want to leave in January.

“If there are players who would like to leave then they are going to talk to me. If one player doesn’t want to stay, I agree he has to leave.”

Everton loaned out Moise Kean to French side PSG in the summer and Tosun departing would leave Calvert-Lewin without a natural striker as backup.

Ancelotti’s comments show decisive leadership and a refreshing openness about maintaining squad morale.

Ancelotti has no clear qualms letting unsettled players go as shaving down the size – and expenses – of the squad looks to be a priority in the January window.
