Virals: Everton Confirm Deal for Demarai Gray

Everton have taken to social media to confirm the signing of winger Demarai Gray from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

The former England youth international has penned a three-year deal with the club retaining the option to extend his Goodison Park stay by a further year.

Gray becomes Rafa Benitez’ third signing for the club, following fellow home-grown English winger Andros Townsend and experienced ex-Stoke and Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in signing for the Blues.

Both men joined in a double swoop with the club confirming their arrivals on Tuesday evening.

Gray initially impressed for Leverkusen and scored on his debut in the German top flight, but swiftly fell out of favour and made just ten outings for the west German side last season. He failed to add to his lone goal in Leverkeusen colours.

The deal has reportedly cost Everton just £1.6 million, representing a nominal fee for a player valued at £7.2 million by Transfermarkt.

The versatile attacker plays predominantly as a left-winger but can feature all along the front line.

He takes the traditional number 11 shirt held by wingers. He is likely to become a long-term replacement for Bernard, who is closing in on a move to an unnamed Middle Eastern side.

A triple swoop costing just £1.6 million has replenished and restocked the Toffees’ depth in vital areas.

A long-term deal for the 25-year-old is a sign of trust from the board, and Everton will be hoping that Gray can meaningfully challenge and contribute to the output of the squad.
