With the latter stages of international tournaments well underway, Everton defender Yerry Mina has stood out as a standout performer.
The ex-Barcelona defender has been an indomitable, ever-present figure for the Colombia national team in the Copa America tournament – and one popular stat highlights just how paramount he has been for his country’s side.
As shared by player focus page FIVEYARDS (@FIVE__YARDS) on Twitter, the account drew up a list of defenders to win over 20 Aerial Duels in either the Copa America or Euros tournaments, with Mina being the only player on that list.

Having won against Uruguay on penalties – during which Mina slotted home emphatically – Mina will look to continue to play an essential role in the heart of Colombia’s defence.
Everton teammate James Rodriguez missed out on the Colombia squad, and returned to training at USM Finch Farm on Monday morning.

Mina’s aerial record is jaw-droppingly impressive in relation to his peers, with other defenders struggling to come close to the rate at which he wins duels.
With 23 duels won, the enforcer has further re-asserted why his 29-cap record for his country is justified.
With 6 goals for Everton and 7 for Colombia in his career to date, the defender’s scoring record also adds further credence to the aerial prowess he possesses.
Mina, who was once the subject of doubt over his Everton future, has shown his redemptive qualities with his international form – something Rafa Benitez will be hoping will be replicated as his eventual new-look side enters the 2021/22 season.
