Welsh starlet signs new deal

Gethin Jones has pledged his future to Everton by signing a new two-year-deal at Goodison Park.

The defender’s new deal keeps him at the club until the summer of 2017 and the Welshman wants to add to his solitary first-team appearance, which came in the Europa League against Russian outfit FC Krasnodar.

“I worked hard last year to get this new contract. I’ve been working hard as long as I’ve been here, since I was 13, and all I want to do is try and play for the first team.

“I had a little taste of it last season and now I want more. ” Jones told the club’s official website.

As well as appearing in the Europa League, Jones spent part of last season on loan at Plymouth Argyle, and helped them reach the play-offs.

The 19-year-old is part of an Everton youth set-up brimming with talent, with the likes of Brendan Galloway, Tyias Browning, Conor Mcaleny and Kieran Dowell also on the cusp of the first-team squad.

The Wales U21 international’s previous deal was due to expire in 12 months time.
