Everton have scouted in-demand Dominik Szoboszlai

Speculation over the future of Red Bull Salzburg midfielder and Hungary international Dominik Szoboszlai continues to be rife, amid reports linking the rising star to sister club RB Leipzig and a host of European giants – with Everton’s interest thrown into the mixture of clubs circling for his signature.

It is not difficult to understand why reports by 90min.com have indicated that a long list of suitors is developing for the Hungarian. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a steady rise to prominence, having scored 12 goals and set up 18 for Salzburg in all competitions last season and already contributing to 14 goals so far this term.

Valued by Transfermarkt in the region of £22.5m, the young playmaker is believed to have a release clause of little more than £20m. Sport Bild have singled out RB Leipzig as the most likely destination for the player. However, 90min’s report mentions that European giants such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and Borussia Dortmund have all monitored him in recent months.

In terms of Premier League rivalry, Everton have reportedly scouted the player along with Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United among others. There is even interest from the likes of Benfica, Porto and Lyon – evidently, he is a man well and truly in demand.

Despite the presence of his release clause, many of his suitors reportedly believe that his true market value amid fierce interest is closer to double that of his valuation, which would put his likely value in the absence of a release clause at closer to £40m.

Given the types of suitors with whom the Hungarian is being linked, Everton could struggle to match the prospects they could offer.

The Toffees lack the trump card of Champions League football that other sides could boast, whilst any wage offer would have to be especially competitive in relation to other suitors. That dampens the overall likelihood of a deal, unfortunately.
