Everton closing in on Belfodil

UPDATE: Further confirmation that a deal has been agreed, several sources supporting original claim from Belgian reports. The Guardian report that Belfodil will fly into Merseyside in the next 48 hours to discuss personal terms and complete a deal.

Everton are closing in on signing striker Ishak Belfodil €12m, according to reports in Belgium.

It is thought that the deal is nearing completion and that Belfodil will be allowed to leave Standard Leige on Thursday and fly to Merseyside to complete the deal. Everton have been looking to strengthen in forward positions but this move will come as a surprise to many.

The Algerian has not exactly had a prolific career at clubs such as Lyon, Inter Milan and Parma but has scored nine goals in 21 appearances. With Steve Walsh’s experience of finding hidden gems in Europe in Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante, there is no doubting that the director of football has his eyes firmly set on Belfodil as he looks to add reliable firepower to the side.

Should Belfodil sign shortly it could be a busy week at USM Finch Farm, with Morgan Schneiderlin set to sign today (Wednesday) in what is thought to be a £22m deal and could be in line to make his debut against Manchester City.

The Toffees are also said to be interested in Memphis Depay and Kostas Manolas as Farhad Moshiri looks to bankroll Everton’s push for the Premier League’s elite.
