Everton have been linked with two strikers as clubs begin to assess their options ahead of the January transfer window.
David Moyes’ comments about The Friedkin Group’s decision to explore a potential sale have also been challenged by Simon Jordan, while James Garner topped a Premier League passing ranking following Saturday’s draw at Hull City.
Everton tracking Dion Beljo
Everton are reportedly tracking Dinamo Zagreb striker Dion Beljo after his prolific start to the season. TEAMtalk reports that Everton, Manchester United and Tottenham have recently checked on the 24-year-old Croatia international, with Brentford also monitoring him.
Beljo has scored 12 goals in his past 14 appearances, including 10 in seven league games. There is no indication Everton have made an approach or opened talks with Dinamo.
Everton scout Tommy Lonergan
Waterford striker Tommy Lonergan is another forward to have attracted Everton’s attention. The Blues reportedly had representatives watching the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international when he scored twice in a 3-1 victory over England.
Lonergan, 22, has scored 14 league goals for Waterford this season. Irish football expert Ronan Calvert believes he would be a “very smart signing for Everton”, pointing to the striker’s physical development and recent form.
Simon Jordan dismisses Moyes claim
Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has rejected Moyes’ suggestion that Everton’s summer transfer business may have offered an indication that TFG were preparing to sell.
“What a load of rubbish,” Jordan said on talkSPORT.
TFG confirmed last week that it was exploring new investment options, including the potential sale of its controlling interest. Moelis has been appointed to advise on the process. Moyes has since spoken about what he wants from any future Everton owner and admitted the uncertainty could have an impact on the club.
Garner leads Premier League passing ranking
Garner completed more passes than any Premier League player during the latest round of fixtures. The Everton midfielder completed 85 passes in the 2-2 draw at Hull, according to Squawka, 12 more than Manchester City’s Elliot Anderson.
James Tarkowski was joint-fourth with 70 completed passes, while Michael Keane was joint-eighth on 65, giving Everton three players in the top 10.
The numbers came from a performance which left Moyes disappointed. He described Everton’s display as “so far below our level” and their defending as “naive to say the least”.
Everton remain unbeaten in the Premier League and host Chelsea at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.
