Everton supporters will stage a flag display before the Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle United as uncertainty continues over the club’s ownership.
Fan group The 1878s announced the display ahead of the fourth-round game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 29 October and called for supporters to unite behind David Moyes and his players.
The 1878s call for Everton unity
The group welcomed the prospect of a change of ownership after The Friedkin Group opened the door to a potential sale of Everton.
“We are pleased that the owners want to sell the club, which will hopefully allow us to progress on the pitch and match our fans’ ambitions in the future with more investment from new owners,” The 1878s said.
“With the pending sale of our club, being united as fans along with our players and management is massively important to help the team in these uncertain times.”
The group also highlighted Everton’s wait for silverware, with the Newcastle tie offering the chance to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
“It’s been far too long since our club won silverware and as time goes on each cup game feels even more important,” the statement added.
“We would love to help push the lads a step closer and into, potentially, our first cup quarter-final at our new home.”
The Friedkin Group announced last week that it was exploring new investment options, including a potential sale of its controlling interest. Moyes has since outlined what he wants from any potential new Everton owners.
Everton face Newcastle at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday, 29 October, with kick-off at 7.45pm.
