Everton and other suitors look to have missed out on signing Polish international Arkadisuz Milik after updates from Italian transfer experts Fabrizio Romano and Nicolo Schira.
Romano confirmed late on Sunday that Marseille were close to agreeing a deal with Napoli for the 26-year-old striker for just an initial fee of €8 million.

It is understood by Sky Italia’s Romano that the deal also contains significant add-on clauses amounting to a further few million.
Napoli have also finalised an agreement that also included a sell-on clause of thirty percent.

This is to insure Napoli against any future profits made by Marseille, who know full well that Milik is arriving in Ligue 1 at a below-market rate.
With plenty of good years left ahead of him in his career, he retains potential to be resold in at least one more move.
Another journalist, Nicolo Schira, confirmed that is it a ‘done deal’ and the paperwork simply requires signatures.

Milik will leave Napoli on an initial six-month loan deal to the southern French side with Marseille having an obligation to buy the player.
Milik is set for a medical this morning and the striker has reportedly agreed personal terms worth €4.5 million per annum and will sign with Marseille until 2025.
Should anything go drastically wrong, Napoli have also extended his current deal to 2022 in order to preserve value and find a new suitor.

Milik could have been an ideal backup or rotational option to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but it seems the Toffees will need to look elsewhere – and fast.
With the window’s deadline fast approaching, it looks as though an experienced prolific and tall target man available cheaply in Milik has slipped away from Everton.
There is every reason for Everton fans to be kicking themselves at such a missed opportunity.
