Everton could face a bid from Burnley for Fabian Delph

Everton midfielder Fabian Delph could be subject to interest from struggling Premier League side Burnley in the January transfer window, according to an extensive report from the Daily Mail.

The former Manchester City stalwart, who has been described as having a ‘great attitude’ by Richard Keys, was a top transfer target for the Clarets in the summer window but a move never materialised.

Sean Dyche’s side are currently in a relegation scrap, albeit with a game in hand over most rival sides. A takeover is reportedly being worked on off the pitch at Turf Moor and it remains unclear whether the manager will be facing a transfer embargo next month as he looks to strengthen his squad (Daily Mail).

Having had a very low-key summer transfer window, spending less than £1m, the Clarets may have worked to free up funds to move for Delph.

Adept as a central midfielder and even as a left-back, the former Englanfd international has featured in a minor capacity for Everton this season as cover for injured personnel. The 31-year-old is something of a high earner at the club, taking home £80,000 per week according to Spotrac.

On high wages and at the wrong side of 30, Delph is not likely to be significantly missed by Everton if they offload him.

The former Aston Villa stalwart’s departure could enable vital funds to be freed up as the Toffees look to reinforce themselves in January, so a deal could make sense for all parties.

From Delph’s perspective, Burnley could represent a strong opportunity to see regular game-time as he looks to add experience and quality to Dyche’s side.
