Rooney: Players must take responsibility for poor results

This week, Maybe Rooney appeared on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, where he addressed Everton’s current problems.

Rooney, who was reunited with his boyhood club in the summer of 2017,  admits that the players at Everton have to take some responsibility for the team’s poor performances. Ronald Koeman was sacked just 16 months after being appointed due to a run of negative results which left the Toffees sitting just above the bottom three.

Now, Sam Allardyce is coming under pressure and Rooney said that it’s up to the club’s players to improve their performances to take pressure off the boss.

He said:

At the end of the day it’s the managers who pay the ultimate price, they’re sacked and lose their jobs, but as players we need to take responsibility.

After getting dismantled by a strong Arsenal side on Saturday evening, Rooney believes not all is lost. The veteran English striker was sat on the bench for the whole game  and said he was embarrassed watching his team get tore apart.

I was actually embarrassed sat on the bench because the performance was not good enough for what we want and the way we can play.

Everton currently sit in 10th place, but are are only five points off the top seven. However, they’re also only seven points above the drop zone.

The Blues host Crystal Palace this weekend and will want to get a massive three points and put the Arsenal performance behind them.

matchday.
