Valencia defender close to Everton move

A flurry of reports today have claimed that 27-year-old Aymen Abdennour is close to a move to Everton from Valencia, for approximately €16.5M. The Tunisian centre-half made 11 appearances last season for the La Liga outfit, coming in from Monaco in the summer to replace Manchester City-bound Nicolas Otamendi.

Before joining Valencia, Aymen Abdennour had a very successful career in France making over 100 appearances for 2 clubs, Toulouse and mega-rich Monaco where he enjoyed both domestic and European success, with a third place finish in Monaco’s maiden season in the top-flight.

However, a cause for concern for the Blues is that Abdennour lost his place in the Valencia side to both Ruben Vezo and Aderlan Santos, due to individual errors leading to crucial goals. He particularly struggled with Valencia’s ethos of possession football, as the Tunisian is more of a stopper/cover defender.

Subsequently, the Spanish side are looking to cut their losses on Abdennour with few takers, but Ronald Koeman seems keen to bring the defender to Goodison Park to rebuild his defence after the loss of John Stones to Manchester City in a record deal for Everton.

With Ramiro Funes Mori, Phil Jagielka and new-man Ashley Williams at the back, is Abdennour the man to complete the lineup?
