Everton defender Ben Godfrey described his England debut as a moment he had ‘dreamt of his entire life’ following his role in England’s 1-0 friendly win over Austria.
Ben Godfrey was one of seven players called up to a provisional 33-man shortlist of England internationals that did not make the final cut for the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 squad.
Nonetheless, the likes of Jesse Lingard, Ben White and Ollie Watkins all joined Godfrey in making England cameos fully in the knowledges that they will not make the Euros.
Ben Godfrey was undeterred by the decision and was handed the chance to make his debut for his country, coming on as a 62nd-minute substitute along with fellow Everton man Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Elsewhere in terms of Everton players featuring for the Three Lions, Jordan Pickford retained his no. 1 role and kept a clean sheet against Das Team, featuring for the entirety of the ninety minutes.
Godfrey himself filled in as a part of the England backline and supported his goalkeeping counterpart in keeping the clean sheet.
Taking to Twitter in a viral post with over 23.5k likes, Godfrey posted a picture of himself on his debut alongside a black-and-white childhood snap of him donning the famous white jersey of England.
