Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has poured cold water on the belief that Everton no longer wish to hire Rafa Benitez as the club’s new manager.
The ex-Liverpool boss courted controversy after news emerged that the Everton board had held constructive talks with the tactician’s entourage.
Fans adorned the surroundings of Goodison Park with offensive messages in a fiery indication of mounting fan frustrations with the attempts to bring the Spaniard to the blue half of Merseyside.
Reports from talkSPORT on Monday morning had indicated that Everton had quietened down in their pursuit of Benitez in news that seemed to offer respite to the worst fears of many Blues.
However, Everton fan and journalist Myers took to Twitter to contrast such reports as he responded to a question from a fan surrounding the saga.
When asked if a deal for Rafa was ‘off’, Myers responded ‘not true I believe’.

As uncertainty continues to swirl surrounding the vacant Everton job, Myers’ comments will do little to alleviate the anxieties of many fans.
Everton fans may be left needing to buckle up for a rollercoaster. Joined by the likes of Spurs and Crystal Palace, several Premier League clubs have had to endure rumbling managerial sagas with no end in sight.
Everton were also close to appointing ex-Wolves man Nuno Espirito Santo as manager, though talks appear to have gone quiet.
Equally, Lucien Favre – who is being heavily courted by Crystal Palace – is one of the latest names to be rising to the fore as a potential Toffees target.
The longer uncertainty drags on, the longer fan fears will mount. Farhad Moshiri must act swiftly to minimise tensions with fans.
