Everton’s veteran midfielder Gareth Barry has called on his side to put games to bed early as the Toffees sunk to a 4-3 defeat against Stoke on Monday, despite going 3-2 up.
Barry’s side conceded two goals late on from Joselu and a last minute penalty from Marko Arnautovic to take three points away from Everton’s hands with a great deal of ease.
The experienced former England international, who captained Everton on Monday, has put their lack of cutting edge down to both the players’ mentality along with manager Roberto Martinez’s tactics.

We have just got ourselves to blame. We’ve been in this situation many times before and clearly we have not learned our lesson. You get that sort of game and then find yourself ahead and with 12, 15 minutes to go, we’ve not got ourselves in a position, or in formation on the pitch, to close the game out.
Everton and Barry will hope to get back to winning ways on Saturday as they take on the in form Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.
