Tom Davies must step up as Schneiderlin is ruled out following surgery

Everton have confirmed that Morgan Schneiderlin will miss this weekend’s clash against Manchester United after having undergone knee surgery this week.

The Frenchman sustained a torn meniscus and underwent surgery to repair the cartilage, and he will now sit out for the foreseeable future.

In the meantime, the 30-year old will continue his rehabilitation at USM Finch Farm.

Tom Davies may now get the nod in Schneiderlin’s absence, with Fabian Delph and Gylfi Sigurdsson both likely to start regardless of Schneiderlin’s absence, having done so against Arsenal last weekend.

Davies has started 11 times in the Premier League this season, and had built up a solid run of games under Duncan Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti before losing his starting spot in mid-January.

Since that point, Davies has played just 32 minutes in the club’s last four games, and now may be the time for him to stake his claim to regain his regular starting spot.

With Schneiderlin injured, and with Delph and Sigurdsson both having found themselves on the receiving end of fan criticism, now is the time where Davies’ Everton future could depend on the performances he gives the club over the next few months.

matchday.
